My Journey started almost 2 years ago when I was given 3 months off of my full time job to go traveling in South East Asia. Around a month in to my travels and battling with the fact I’d promised my boss I was going back but not feeling like I wanted to. I found myself on Christmas eve in a hostel in Hanoi talking to an older English couple I had just met about my dilemma. I decided there and then; influenced slightly by a few too many beers that I had a job I could do from anywhere and didn’t need to go home and so I wasn’t going to.
I woke up Christmas morning, and upon remembering the decision I’d made the night before. I decided it was one of my better drunken decisions and that I was going to stick with it.
“ Two roads diverged in a wood and I
– I took the one less traveled by,
and that has made all the difference. ”
– Robert Frost
Almost 2 years later having gone back to England (and the job) for a short time on a couple of occasions. I’m pretty sure that not only was it “one of my better drunken decisions.” It was one of the the best decisions I’ve ever made.
SOUTH EAST ASIA
North THAILAND & VIETNAM
[ 3rd nov 2017 – 31st mar 2018 ]
My first time out of Europe – First stop Bangkok. A month in Thailand just in the North as I already had a flight booked to Vietnam and run out of time to head down South. Followed by 4 months falling in love with Vietnam.
SOUTH EAST ASIA – Malaysia & Cambodia
[ 22nd May 2018 – 31st oct 2018 ]
I spent most of my time in Malaysia going backwards and forwards between Kuala Lumpur & George Town, Penang. Made a few short trips to the Cameron Highlands, Malaka and Kuching. As well as a quick visit to Cambodia in between for an unintentional visa run, before changing my mind and going back.
In my opinion Malaysia is probably the most under rated Country in South East Asia by Backpackers and it so often gets overlooked and missed from the typical route.
SOUTH EAST ASIA – Malaysia, SOUTH Thailand & Vietnam
[ 16th JAN 2019 – 21st mAY 2019 ]
After a brief visit back home to England, I just couldn’t stay away so it was back to Malaysia for another 3 months mostly spent in Kuala Lumpur & Penang again. But this time with a bit of time on Kapas and Pangkor Island. Followed by an unplanned detour across the border into Thailand to see some of the South. Then back to Vietnam to spend a couple of weeks in Da nang where I never made it to the first time.
AUSTRALIA – Vietnam and back to Australia
[ 3rd Oct 2019 – Current ]
After starting my Australian working holiday visa in Melbourne I ended up going back to Vietnam for 3 months. Then it was time to go back to Australia. This time to Darwin via a one day stopover in Singapore to get some Malaysian food that I was missing a lot! Just in time before the world went crazy.
