I’ve got a bit of an obsession with abandoned spaces. So when I heard about the abandoned water park in Hue I had to go check it out.
I was lucky enough to meet someone at my hostel who has had a job as a tour guide and who has spent quite a bit of time in Hue over the last 7 years. So he knew the history of the water park and had seen it when it was in much better condition. (When the crocodiles which got left behind were still there.) He took me on the back of his bike, and knew the back entrance to the park. So I was still able to see it despite the main entrance being closed.
Unfortunately I had no battery on my phone & very little space on the memory card in my camera. So I was only able to get a few photos. You will have to go check it out for yourself!
The water park never opened due to lack of funds and so was just left. But I have a feeling it’s much more of an attraction in it’s abandoned state than it ever would have been as a functioning water park.
Don’t skip Hue
Hue is known for the Citadel and it’s Tombs & Pagodas. I have found during my 3 months traveling Vietnam that a lot of travelers I’ve met have said to skip Hue & weren’t all that impressed with the place. I have to disagree with them & am glad I made the stop there between Hoi An & Hanoi. The Water Park was definitely a highlight. It made a nice change from the Pagodas/Temples, Waterfalls, Caves, National Parks & Museums and was a different attraction that you don’t get everywhere.
Of course like most abandoned spaces it has become a hotbed for Graffiti / Street Art.
Why not take a look at some of the other street art I came across during my travels through South East Asia.
